Well worth a visit - though only open between 9am and 12.30pm. The climb up is steep - we persuaded the navette from our hotel to drop us off at the top. The cactus and yukka gardens on the fortifications are well laid out. Inside the museum in the central building it is true that some of the exhibits need 'rejuvenation' but well laid out and interesting. Some English translations here and there. 4/5

A small sheltered beach of black sand,on teh largest village of the island. Thebright canoes on the black sand emphasize the colour contrast.
Quiet beach facing the isles of Coche,Grand îlet, the Augustins and the Vierge. The seabed is rich in fish and coral. The manchineel trees, wtih red marks, produce sap which should be avoided on rainy days as it leaves burns on the skin.
